We need your help! Over the last 2 weeks, we have had the pleasure to welcome some amazing dogs into our organization. As with most of our kids, they come to us from abuse and neglect…with a lifetime of stories to share of hunger, pain and sadness. We are so fortunate to be in the position to positively impact each dog we welcome with open arms, however sometimes their needs are great and the financial side of rescue takes on a larger role.
Please read the stories of Frieda, Helga and Sasha. Please share their sagas with your friends and families. Celebrate the fact they are safe…and if able, please donate to their care. We need your help to help them. Your continued generosity and support is greatly appreciated.

FRIEDA UPDATE: Frieda's home! We are happy to report that Frieda was released from the hospital and is recuperating in foster care. She has gained 7 pounds at her last check up and her lungs are starting to heal. There was fear that she would loose one lung, but her vet, Dr. Kuschel at Deer Creek Animal Hospital, no longer believes that is the case. She's on 6 more weeks of heavy antibiotics but her spirits are high! She is now allowed limited exercise, but really prefers just to be a lap dog. She appreciates everyone's support and well wishes!

Abandoned at a shelter in Missouri, we heard the pleas for her rescue and made arrangements for her to join the C.A.R.E. caravan to Colorado. When she arrived, we welcomed a girl starved to the bone and desperate for love. To meet Frieda, is to be kissed by Frieda. She is so affectionate in spite of her past - or perhaps in anticipation and appreciation of her future. She also arrived with a nasty cough and a nose bleed. Concerned, we took her to the vet. Frieda was in distress. Suffering from pneumonia and a collapsed lung, she struggled for breath. Immediately she was started on fluids and oxygen. She remains hospitalized and is fighting to recover. We visit with her every night and leave so grateful that Frieda arrived just in time to be saved. Her prognosis is good; however her fight will be long. We anticipate Frieda's vet expenses to be around $1,800.00.
Meet Helga...
Helga at the shelter
Helga Suffered From Severely Matted Fur
Mass removed from Helga's stomach
The light still shines...Helga in recovery!
HELGA UPDATE: The pathology report is back on the mass removed from Helga's stomach - the great news is that it is not cancer and by removing it, we healed Helga from the pain and discomfort is caused. The sad side to the report was that the mass was in fact a hematoma most likely caused by blunt force trauma, i.e, a kick, to her stomach. It pains us to think of the abuse and neglect this precious girl has endured, but we celebrate that she is now safe...and loved! She will start heartworm treatment in the beginning of March which will include 6 weeks of cage rest. We look forward to her blossoming like a Spring flower after the treatment. She will make a beautiful addition to a very lucky family.

Dumped at the same shelter as Frieda, Helga hitched a ride to Colorado and arrived on the same transport. She arrived with the same nasty cough but also in a lot of discomfort from the urine and feces matted fur that made up her backside. When we tried to clean her up, her discomfort increased. Concerned, she also was rushed to the vet. Upon examination and a blood work review, the vet determined that Helga also suffered from pneumonia and was sadly heartworm positive. But more concerning was the fact she had a large mass in her stomach; the source of a lot of her pain. After stabilizing her, she underwent surgery on January 27 to remove what turned out to be a cantaloupe sized mass from her abdomen. Pathology reports are pending, but the doctors are optimistic and do not believe it’s cancerous. Helga was released from the hospital and is recovering in foster care. Her journey is not over as she will have to undergo heartworm treatment once she gains some strength. There is a new light in Helga’s eyes however and she will make her way to Happily-Ever-After. We are so lucky to be by her side for this new beginning. Helga’s current vet bill is $1,205.00 and rising as she faces long-term antibiotics and heartworm treatment.

Destined for the same sad fate as too many in shelters, we worked with rescuers in Kansas to pull Sasha “just in time.” Fostered in Kansas until she could make her way to Colorado, Sasha became increasingly ill and was taken to the vet. Beaten down by a virus (which one we are still not sure) Sasha fought to live. There were times over her hospital stay that no one thought she would make it. Her foster mom and the vet rallied around her and she pulled through – much to everyone’s amazement. Sasha is a miracle baby that beat the odds. She is now back with her foster mom until she can reach 110% and make the long trip to Colorado. We can’t wait to meet this little girl that we have loved and worried over for so long. Her new destiny is for puppy greatness (and probably a little rottenness as well). Sasha’s hospital stay totaled $1,024.00.
